Launch of Befrienders for Families with co-developer The Salvation Army

Image
Being foster parents and journeying with fellow foster parents in the past 10 years, we are very thankful for UBS Optimus Foundation’s support in this new program - Befrienders for Families (BFF) - co-developed by both HFG-SG and The Salvation Army Singapore (TSA)! Supporting the natural families of the foster children is also important in the entire care continuum. Last Friday, the BFF program was officially launched at TSA’s Red Shield Appeal Event 2023. Here’s a few photos taken at the event. We were too busy meeting new and old friends, and eating, so here’s only 3 photos!

Fostering Tea Session June 2023 (Audrie & Chune Keat)

Image
We are happy to partner Gracehaven Fostering ( The Salvation Army Singapore (TSA)) for our intro tea this morning! So blessed that we could have City Harvest Church host this round at Suntec City! Our very own ED, Kuan Ying, introduced HFG and also inspired with her own story of how she wanted to ensure her foster son did not feel that she would abandon him. We were so blessed that @Audrie Siew, one of our HFG Core Leaders as well as the Executive Director of Children and Youth Group in The Salvation Army, and her husband, Chune Keat could share about their journey in fostering. She shared that foster parents enter the lives of children at their darkest seasons when healing is most needed. Liliac, one of her foster girls, said that she told her there was no need to study for PSLE as she did not see any hope or future. She shared how just providing a safe and caring environment really can give hope and rebuild lives! Ellie, one of her foster girls, came to them unable to read or spe...

First Befrienders for Families Introduction Session - Experienced Befriender Lee Hwa's Sharing

Image
This weekend was an exciting one as we ( Home For Good - SG , The Salvation Army Singapore ) had our very first Befrienders For Families (BFF) Introduction Session at The Salvation Army's Youth Development Centre ( Youth Development Centre ) BFF is a programme which we co-developed with the Children and Youth Group of @The Salvation Army to support foster (and children’s home) children and their families when they reunfiy. HFG foster parents have seen this need as their foster children go back home. The natural families are safe and many are doing what they can but still need support for the children to reach their potential. Our very experienced Befriender, Lee Hwa shared inspiring stories about her journey with vulnerable children and families. When she was young, her family didn’t have much but her mother always opened their home to help those in need. One of the children she befriended, Chris (not his real name), a 4 year old boy, was said to have challenging behaviours. Howeve...

Everyday Fostering - Respite Magic (Junjie)

Image
Lin Junjie writes about how he and his wife, Cecile( Lov Clou ), responded to God's prompting and were blessed as they befriended "Adam" (not his real name). They have made a difference in helping social workers in Big Love Child Protection Specialist Centre keep Adam with his family! Thank you, JJ and Cecile ! There are times when HFG receives requests for help to take a child out for a day weekly, provide respite for a few days to support vulnerable families. If you are open to this or fostering, pl do consider coming to our intro tea to hear more! It's on 27/4, 10am near Farrer Road. PM us to RSVP! < Everyday Fostering - Respite magic !> By JJ Lin The journey started with our first HFG tea session at a foster parent’s home. We were not ready for fostering but we are amazed that God still opened the door for us to do our part in loving and caring for vulnerable kids. We were invited to join HFG support group. From there, we came to know about Adam, a 8 year...

Everyday fostering - Respite Wonders (Lee Hwa)

Image
Respite carers are an important part in our fostering system. We thank God for these wonderful angels who come in to help when foster parents need help for a few hours or days! Here is our 3rd installment of Everyday Fostering from the eyes of our HFG respite carer,  Lee Hwa , who has been such a blessing to foster parents and children! We do pray for more great respite carers like Lee Hwa! < Everyday fostering : Respite Wonders > ""Auntie Lee Hwa, I will be a good boy!” This was one of the sentences little Chris said to me when I first helped  Vivienne Ng  for respite care. Chris was Vivienne’s foster child and was a very playful 4yo boy with ADHD. His behaviours had led to him being “kicked out” of a few childcare centres for some serious mischief. But you see, Chris was a broken child… he was deeply traumatised by his removal from his mother whom he loves deeply. When the day came for me to take him out, I gave him my attention, we played & talked about anyth...
