Post Movie Screening Reflection by HFG foster parent and volunteer Edmen Leong - "Lost Love"

Image
Post Movie Screening Reflection by HFG foster parent and volunteer Edmen Leong who reflected on how he and his family learnt and overcame challenges and made an impact to foster children! “Home For Good hosted a private movie screening between the 11th to 13th of May at Eaglewings Cinematics . They screened the movie “Lost Love” which is about how a married couple ventured into fostering and eventually took on several children throughout the course of their lives. Across the 3 days, a total of 172 guests attended the movie screening. My wife Laa Leong and I ( Edmen Leong ) are glad that we were part of the movie screening as volunteers. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie specifically because we were able to relate to several of the experiences that were represented in the movie. One experience we could relate to was a scene portraying a conversation between the foster mum and the school principal after a fight happened between the foster child and a schoolmate. Gist of the scene was how...

MSF Award Ceremony for Foster Children and Youth 2022 (Audrie)

Image
It’s MSF Award Ceremony for Foster Children and Youth 2022! We are so happy to see that 3 HFG foster children got the MSF academic excellence awards from Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Masagos Zulkifli! Today, we want to celebrate these children and wanted to find out their dreams! We were onsite and managed to collect some short snippets. MICHAEL, IRENE and NICOLE* (14 year-old foster girl). Nicole, got an award for her Sec 2 results. Michael and Irene shared that they felt so happy for Nicole because they saw her putting in a lot of effort. With the transition from primary school to Secondary school, Nicole had to juggle between her CCA, her studies, moving between the homes of her natural family and foster family. She rose above it all to focus and do well in her studies. Nicole was happy that she got an award as she didn’t expect to get it. She shared that her dream was to be a teacher when she grows up, one who is patient and will put in a lot of effort to help the...

Panel Sharing at Epworth Foster Care's Movie Event (Vivienne, Audrie & Chune Keat)

Image
29 Oct 2022 -  HFG partnered Epworth Foster Care for the ”Drop Box” movie event. The show was touching and a great reminder of how the life of every child is precious in God’s eyes. Epworth’s manager of fostering, Li Koon and HFG foster parent, Kuan Ying, welcomed everyone! HFG foster parents, Vivienne Ng and Audrie Siew/Chune Keat were on the panel together with Epworth’s Manager of fostering, Li Koon. Representing HFG, Vivienne shared how the Lord broke her heart with His love for vulnerable children that she saw through her work and led her to foster. She highlighted that research showed that a child can be on a positive path if there was just one stable and caring adult who believed in them! Audrie shared how her foster girl, Ellie (not her real name) came just 2 weeks before her final P2 exams, not knowing how to read even simple words like “CAT” or say A-Zs. It was heartbreaking when Ellie shared how she had never passed a single test or spelling before. Audrie could see how...

"Children of Shanghai" Private Screening (May 2022)

Image
15 May 2022 - We just completed a private screening of a film of fostering in China with Care for Children ! We partnered The Salvation Army Singapore for this. It was amazing to hear foster children in China share how their lives have been changed through fostering. We are humbled and amazed by the impactful work of Robert Glover and how there is over a million children in foster care now instead of orphanages because of his obedience to God! If there is anyone who was at the event today and didn’t have time to indicate your interest either in helping grow family based care and fostering overseas (there are more than 8 million kids in orphanages internationally) or help fostering in Singapore (open to foster or befriend kids/families), please PM us! *Special thanks to Salvation Army friends who mobilised their congregations and staff to make this happen in less than 14 days! You guys rock! *And deep appreciation to HFG-SG members who volunteered today and helped to spread the w...

Faith To Action Initiative at the Global Forum for World Without Orphans (2019)

Image
It’s a fan girl moment with Elli Oswald from Faith To Action Initiative at the Global Forum for World Without Orphans! We have been so blessed by their high quality, research based and sensitive materials to educate the Christian community on the need to support families instead in perpetuating orphanage care for vulnerable children in mission fields! We use their materials for churches and Christians in Singapore who approach us on how to best help vulnerable children in mission fields! Do you know that UNICEF research shows that 70-90% of kids in orphanages have at least one living family member? Outcomes for kids in family based care such as foster care and kinship care are better too! You can find out more in Faith To Action's link! https://www.faithtoaction.org/start-here/ If you are a church or Christian supporter looking to transition from orphanage to family based care in the mission field, they even developed a guidance manual for this! https://www.faithtoaction.org...

The Justice Conference Asia (2019)

Image
HFG-SG folks were at The Justice Conference Asia, held for the 1st time in SG, & org by Daniel Chua's church & others. Joy, Vi, Mercy, Lydia, Amy etc, were involved in diff ways - speaking, supporting, attending, organizing etc!! And professionals working with vulnerable children & Epworth Fostering Agency were there too!!! Sobering bible verses cited by keynote speaker Rev Eugene Cho, founder of One Day's Wages, remind us again of what is truly important to God... “I can’t stand your religious meetings. I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions. I want nothing to do with your religion projects, your pretentious slogans and goals. I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes, your public relations and image making. I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music. When was the last time you sang to me ? Do you know what I want? I want justice—oceans of it. I want fairness—rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want." Amos 5:21-24 (MSG) Ken Wytsma unders...
