This Sat morning, we are thankful for Jason and Irene, foster parents from the HFG community, share their fostering journey at our joint fostering intro session with Epworth Foster Care . Both of them literally glowed with joy as they shared about their fostering journey! Definitely not expecting this… if you know that they are parents/foster parents to 5 biological/foster children, including a few months old foster child. Post Movie Screening Reflection by HFG foster parent and volunteer Edmen Leong who reflected on how he and his family learnt and overcame challenges and made an impact to foster children! “Home For Good hosted a private movie screening between the 11th to 13th of May at Eaglewings Cinematics . They screened the movie “Lost Love” which is about how a married couple ventured into fostering and eventually took on several children throughout the course of their lives. Across the 3 days, a total of 172 guests attended the movie screening. My wife Laa Leong and I ( Edmen Leong ) are glad that we were part of the movie screening as volunteers. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie specifically because we were able to relate to several of the experiences that were represented in the movie. HFG Chit Chat Corner – Educational Journey for Foster Children with Special Needs. In February, a few foster parents within the HFG community had an informal chat with veteran foster parent, Linda, who is currently fostering two youth with special needs. She has fostered and provided respite care to many foster children over the years. Here’s some highlights from our chat which we hope will encourage others who are on similar journeys. 1) Build Strong Bond First Linda and her husband, Robin, started their fostering journey since 2003. Upon the arrival of Adam* and John* into their home, they decided to focus on building strong bonds with the boys. Both came to their families when they were babies.   Just completed a support session for foster parents today! It was so good to see everyone. We wanted to keep the group small so it was easier to talk and share. One of the topics was on how to support foster children who struggled with motivation for academic areas and learning difficulties . Joyce shared how the love and acceptance of the children were so important and this made it easier for her to help her foster child to learn . Audrie & Chune Keat shared about how celebrating small successes and focusing on effort instead of results helped their foster children. 29 Oct 2022 -  HFG partnered Epworth Foster Care for the ”Drop Box” movie event. The show was touching and a great reminder of how the life of every child is precious in God’s eyes. Epworth’s manager of fostering, Li Koon and HFG foster parent, Kuan Ying, welcomed everyone! HFG foster parents, Vivienne Ng and Audrie Siew/Chune Keat were on the panel together with Epworth’s Manager of fostering, Li Koon. Representing HFG, Vivienne shared how the Lord broke her heart with His love for vulnerable children that she saw through her work and led her to foster. Amy and Victor Amy was given an opportunity to host foster parents at one of the events organized by her workplace. It was truly a memorable and eye-opening experience for her to hear the heartwarming stories of the foster parents as they shared with Amy and one another their fostering journeys. One of the foster parents commented that “If there is a room in your heart to foster, you will create space in your house to foster.” “It was very touching to see a foster parent taking care of a foster child with severe disabilities, feeding and attending to the child.” Amy shared.   Today, our P6 kids just completed their PSLE listening comprehension. Have you wondered what life is like for a foster parent during PSLE season? HFG foster parent, Audrie Siew, just told us an everyday fostering story that happened with her P6 foster child. Everyday Fostering : < “The House Ate Up My Glasses ” and “I have a MUM now!”> My foster child, Lilac* (not her name), is taking PSLE this year and on the way to being reunified with her natural family. As everyone with P6 children know, it’s a very stressful time for the children and their families. As part of her reunification plan, Lilac goes to her natural parents for overnight stays. It was all going well. With the many things to juggle however, she ended up leaving her spectacles in her mum’s place when she came back to me one week.   Sharing by Kai Mei at the joint intro tea session with Epworth Community Services on 31 July 2021. Kai Mei has four children of her own and came to know about fostering through FamChamps, which is organised by Focus on the Family Singapore. During one of the sessions, she heard a foster mother and her son shared about fostering. At that point of time, the concept of fostering was foreign yet something happened in her heart. Her family started to explore if this was something that God wanted them to do. It didn’t stop at that talk. One of her friends was a foster mother and linked her up to attend this same tea session organised by Epworth some time ago.
