It’s a fan girl moment with Elli Oswald from Faith To Action Initiative at the Global Forum for World Without Orphans! We have been so blessed by their high quality, research based and sensitive materials to educate the Christian community on the need to support families instead in perpetuating orphanage care for vulnerable children in mission fields! We use their materials for churches and Christians in Singapore who approach us on how to best help vulnerable children in mission fields!

Do you know that UNICEF research shows that 70-90% of kids in orphanages have at least one living family member? Outcomes for kids in family based care such as foster care and kinship care are better too! You can find out more in Faith To Action's link!
If you are a church or Christian supporter looking to transition from orphanage to family based care in the mission field, they even developed a guidance manual for this!
Children really grow best in families! "God sets the lonely in families..." (Ps 68:6). We are praying for more to come onboard to support families and be part of a worldwide transformation!

"A Cheerful Giver" (Michael & Irene)

3 foster children from HFG families received awards from MSF last weekend. Michael and Irene just shared with us what Nicole* (not her real name) did after the ceremony! Our hearts are so warm...Nicole, we are cheering you on! SHARING BY MICHAEL “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7 NKJV Today I (Michael) really saw what this verse truly meant. Nicole* received the MSF Academic Achievement Award. Along with it she was awarded a prize voucher. During our journey back from church, Nicole was quietly discussing something with her younger foster sister. Nicole than came excitedly to me saying; "Daddy, Daddy, you can use part of the money and go enjoy a meal with Mummy!" I looked at Nicole surprised: "Why?". HFG's 1st ever official award - Community Care Award from MSF

HFG just got our 1st ever official award! Thank you MSF Singapore ! This is the Community Care Award for supporting the homeless during the circuit breaker period! It’s the generous HFG members and friends who made it possible to provide 100 mattresses, and over 1700 meals to homeless housed safely churches! Whatever we did is only a drop to combine with others in the big ocean and we just do what we can. It was inspiring and humbling to be amongst so many with the passion to help! Sandy Chua (our tireless volunteer who developed and coordinated the entire “supply chain”), Vivienne Ng and Audrie Siew represented HFG for this ceremony... check out the photos! We thank God for this milestone and we hope HFG can continue to be a blessing!

Launch of Befrienders for Families with co-developer The Salvation Army

Being foster parents and journeying with fellow foster parents in the past 10 years, we are very thankful for UBS Optimus Foundation’s support in this new program - Befrienders for Families (BFF) - co-developed by both HFG-SG and The Salvation Army Singapore (TSA)! Supporting the natural families of the foster children is also important in the entire care continuum. Last Friday, the BFF program was officially launched at TSA’s Red Shield Appeal Event 2023. Fostering Tea Session (Robin & Linda)

Inspirational sharing by Robin Lim & Linda Foo who have fostered a total of 20 kids (from 5 days old to 14 years), caring for them for periods ranging from a month to 13 years!!!! In 2003, their then-16 yo son brought home a friend who had family problems and needed a place to stay. Instead of turning their son's friend away, the couple stepped out in faith and in obedience to God, and allowed him to stayed with them for several months. After that God led them to help a church friend who was going through marital and financial problems to care for 2 young children for 6 months. This served as preparation and started them on their journey to fostering. They felt God lead them to open up their home to children who needed a place to stay temporarily, and signed up with MSF. Robin stressed that, in the ministry of fostering, the "heart"-ware was most important aspect.
