Fostering Tea Session (Cindy & Timmy)

30 May 2015 - Cindy and Timmy Ng's sharing about the joys and challenges of fostering!

As a social worker, Cindy sees many children in need of care, and felt God's call to "walk the talk" in providing that care. In managing the challenging behaviors of her foster kids, she found that constant communication with Timmy helped, as did personal reflection; adjustment of her expectations about kids' behaviours; and the prayers and support of church friends and colleagues.

Cindy felt that her previous foster son's unusually strong attachment to Timmy (despite her doing most of the caregiving) reflected a deep need to bond with a father figure. Such is the importance of foster fathers in the lives of these kids who are often fatherless!

Timmy shared that it is much easier to help someone, and then retreat into the sanctuary of our own families, compared with allowing that person into our homes and lives. Yet, when we are stretched beyond our comfort zone, that's when faith comes in, and that's when God steps in to meet that faith.

As a closing remark, Timmy spoke about God as the Good Shepherd who would leave the 99 "safe" sheep in their fold, in order to go after that one "lost" sheep. In the same way, despite all the heartache, difficulties and stress, that one little "lost" foster child we help is worth it all!
