Fostering Tea Session (Ai Cheng & Vivienne)

Image
5 Dec 2015 - Our final tea session for 2015. Foster parents Ai Cheng and Vivienne share from their hearts about the reasons for their decision to foster and the challenges they had to go through when persevering in their fostering journey. What was really significant for us this tea session was a mother who had brought her 12 year old to the tea session because she believes that " fostering is a family decision ". How true!

Fostering Tea Session (Desmond & Wendy)

Image
24 October 2015 - Sharing by Desmond and Wendy Wendy shared about how they cope with their foster child's trauma symptoms and how God has encouraged them to hang on during challenging moments. They shared as well that the journey has encouraged them to constantly examine the motivations behind fostering . They had asked themselves if their self esteem was dependent on their performance of sacrificial love. They questioned themselves if their care of the child is an outflow of love from Christ and if they are seeking to gain affirmation and adoration from the child. " If I don't receive the reciprocal feelings, would I continue fostering? "

Sharing by Dr Krish Kandiah (Founder of Home For Good UK)

11 Nov 2014 - We are so blessed to have Dr Krish Kandiah, President of London School of Theology and Founder Director of Home For Good UK, with us this afternoon. His sharing on fostering and adoption greatly stirred and moved our hearts. Many children who are in need are waiting for us to respond. We shouldn't keep them waiting any longer. Let's awake to the Father's call to take care of the orphans. 8 Feb 2015 - Dr Krish shares how being Father of the fatherless is central to God's character and encourages foster carers to press on in what they do as their act of worship unto Him. 12 Oct 2015 - Home for Good Singapore is pleased to have been ministered to by Krish Kandiah from Home for Good UK. Home for Good Singapore is modelled after Home for Good UK, a charity helping to find adoptive and foster homes for children in the care system. The HFG SG foster parents had a great time fellowshipping over a wonderful dinner whipped up by Khye Suan from Methodist Childr...

Fostering Tea Session (Teh Hsin & Joyce)

Image
22 August 2015 -  Teh Hsin and Joyce shared with all of us their motivations behind fostering and the joys and struggles they have experienced. Teh Hsin shared openly about his reluctance to foster at the beginning, and likened his free time that he treasured so much (now that his children have all grown up) to the five loaves and two fishes that the little child gave to Jesus in the miracle of the feeding of the multitudes (Matthew 14:13-21). "My free time, only benefits myself. But when I am ready to release that basket in Jesus' hand, what can He do? In that story, they collected twelve baskets of left overs. The Lord will never short change us." Joyce shared how the fostering journey had been a very personal walk with the Lord Jesus. Although there was no "rain down big sign", it was a personal conviction that the Lord placed in her heart. "I'm not a fantastic parent, but I'm available" , she shared.

Fostering Tea Session (Cindy & Timmy)

Image
30 May 2015 -  Cindy and Timmy Ng's sharing about the joys and challenges of fostering! As a social worker, Cindy sees many children in need of care, and felt God's call to " walk the talk " in providing that care. In managing the challenging behaviors of her foster kids, she found that constant communication with Timmy helped, as did personal reflection; adjustment of her expectations about kids' behaviours; and the prayers and support of church friends and colleague s. Cindy felt that her previous foster son's unusually strong attachment to Timmy (despite her doing most of the caregiving) reflected a deep need to bond with a father figure. Such is the importance of foster fathers in the lives of these kids who are often fatherless! Timmy shared that it is much easier to help someone, and then retreat into the sanctuary of our own families, compared with allowing that person into our homes and lives. Yet, when we are stretched beyond our comfort zone, that...

Fostering Tea Session (Lynette Chiu)

Image
4 April 2015 - At our Intro Tea today, Lynette Chiu shared that she stepped forward to foster after helping out as a volunteer tutor in a Voluntary Children's Home. Kids would tell her elaborate stories about home-leave with their parents over the weekend, which staff said were all made-up and didn't actually happen. It was then Lynette realized that children have such a deep need to belong to someone and to have a family . Truly, "He sets the lonely in families" Ps 68:4. She has since fostered 5 kids over the past decade.

Fostering Tea Session (Teh Hsin & Joyce)

Image
10 Dec 2014 -  Teh Hsin and Joyce's sharing. They are fostering an adorable little girl who has on-going medical needs after sustaining injuries. Teh Hsin's principle of the Good Samaritan - if there is a wounded person lying in front of u, do we still need to ask God if it is His calling that we be the ones to help this person ? Appreciate Joyce's honest sharing about a) thanking the Lord for each single day with their foster daughter, b) rejoicing at the miracle of each milestone achieved and finally c) learning to let go and trust God when the child is reintegrated eventually.

Fostering Tea Session (Robin & Linda) - Joy!

Image
23 August 2014 -  Our hearts were stirred and greatly inspired by Robin and Linda's testimony of God's love and the miracles that took place when they allowed His love to flow through their lives to touch their foster children. JOY is what their foster children bring to them and JOY is word used to describe their fostering journey.
